How much can I compress an image without losing quality?

Most photos drop 60–80% in file size before the difference becomes visible on screen. JPEG and WebP are re-encoded at a lower quality setting, while PNG is reduced by simplifying its colour palette. Start around 80% quality and lower it until you can spot a change, then step back once.
